Once Upon a Time Season finale

Hey there!!!

I just watched the season finale and I thought that it was worth spending a couple of minutes talking about it. And here I am, after all this time!!

Well, the episode begins where the last one left off, Storybroke is in great trouble as Tamara has activated the trigger that will destroy the town and everyone who is from magical origin in it (that is to say, everyone but Henry).

On view of the situation, Regina joins the good guys and try to do something about it, although the only option she's got is going to require her life. The whole town is on alert as they see everything collapsing in front of them. True desperation is invading the idyllic magical town and there's not much they can do about it.
Ok, end of telling the story because I don't want to ruin the experience. Just to say that It was quite interesting to see all the characters working together to get to the same thing: Survival. The whole episode was pretty well crafted, it had emotional peaks when it had too and everything worked just fine. Although I have to say that I am not mesmerized with the setting for the next season, I will probably be giving the show the final chance. If you remember my last reviews you all know that I have been utterly disappointed with Once Upon a Time season 2, so let's hope that after this epic finale, we will get something better.

Farewell, my dear challenge.

Hello everyone,

I am sorry to inform you that due to University work I am forced to quit the review challenge. However, I will not close the blog as I will keep on posting reviews from time to time, of either books I read or any new films I watch.

I am terribly sorry because I don't consider myself a quiter, but one must have his priorities, and unfortunatelly, the challenge isn't one when it comes to univeristiy.

Thank you if you have been coming here often or perhaps everyday to see what I had to say about a particular book of film, I hope you continue to do so, even if it's not a race to self pride.

I will not remove the Challenge setting today, because I know how I am and it's likely that I will regret this post and go on with it. But in spite of what I might think, today I have an important dinner to attend, so luckily I won't have time to think much about it.

Again, thank you all so much and I hope I'll "be seeing" you all soon.

FIN

FIN

Hello everyone, today I'm going to talk about a Spanish film named FIN (The End) from last year that I watched last night.

The story focuses on a group of all friends who agree to get back together for a weekend, I'm not going to say that there are obviously many "unsolved affairs" with them, because it's obvious. What is not obvious is that during the first night of the "wonderful meeting" something really weird happens and suddenly every one disappears, like, they just vanquish. From that moment on, the story goes in a whole new direction because one of the group members has gone missing and they go out and try to get him back, but instead of that, the all start to disappear, one by one.

So, this is the perfect example of a great idea terrible put on a camera. Nothing in the film makes sense, the dialogue is stupid instead of epic (which is what they were going for), and everything in the film seems wrong and stupid (particularly a silly scene with dogs). There's no tension, nor feelings for the characters, hell i even shouted out loud "AT LAST" when one of them died.

The film did not even convince me on the technical side, I thought that it was a complete waste of time and money, because what they spent for that piece of nothing, could have been used to actually make a decent film.

Game of thrones

Game of thrones

Hello everyone! Today I finally watched Sunday's episode of Game of Thrones so I'm going to spend a couple of minutes telling you what I thought about it. Let's get started, shall we?

The episode picks up right where the last one left off. Jamie has lost his hand, his sword hand as he calls it, the tension in Kings Landing is only going up and everything in westeros (even up the wall) is starting to set in motion what looks like a very intense season. I have to say that i love the bit up the wall, because I wasn't expecting that at all, so I was really impressed.

I think I mentioned this in my other reviews, but the last two seasons of the show were not that good for me, I mean, they were nice and all but not as much of a masterpiece as everyone else think of them. But this one, damn! every single day it gets better and better, which only worries me, because it can either go on like this, or simply lose it and become boring as hell from now on (which I doubt, given this last episode).

I won't tell you much about it, just to say that the ending is amazing, although a little bit predictable, but hey, I actually didn't care about not being surprised, really, because that moment is so well shot, written and acted that you just sit there, watch it and think: son of a b***.

The characters, as usual, keep growing up, specially Daeneris in this one, and that is obviously great, because having not read the books, getting to know the characters that well is essential.

Iron Man

Iron Man directed by Jon Favreau

Hey there! Today I had an exhausting day, but I've been thinking what to review and walking up and down the streets I kept noticing that Iron Man 3 hits cinemas in two days, so I thought, well, I might go with Iron Man today, the second one in a couple of days, and then I'll review the 3rd one, so here I am!!!

I must confess that it took me a long time to watch this film, basically because I've never been one for comics or superheroes, but I kept hearing nice things about it so a couple of years ago I rented it and watch it all by myself, and to my own surprise, I loved it.
The character of Iron Man is so cool and at the same way hideous that one wants to either become a diehard fan or be next in line to kill him, and I think that something like that is very hard to achieve, because I obviously thing that is a good thing. So, for that I think we must give credit to Marvel, for making sure that they were spending money in a good film.
What I enjoyed the most about the film (besides Robert Downey Jr. 's performance) is the humour in the film. It has a great bunch of hilarious lines that makes the film really special and different from many super hero films, and since this was one of the first ones I saw that had action, comedy and good actors doing all of the above, it remains as one of my favourites superhero films.

OH, about the performances, if you haven't seen this film (which I doubt), perhaps I should mention that the villain is played by none other than Jeff Bridges, yes, "the dude", and Gwyneth Paltrow is in it too, so if you have actually not watched this, give it a chance, come on!

A midsummer night's dream

A midsummer night's dream by William Shakespeare

So, today is the international day of books, right? Well, at least it is in Spain, and since I just read this play for class, I thought it would be nice to use April 23rd to write about it. I must say though, that I have been out all day and I'm terribly tired and so I don't think I'll be able to write much. Anyway, thank you so much for reading!

The story begins with the preparations of a wedding, which evolves into a conversation of a "secret/forbidden" love between two of the characters, the girl (Hermia) is to be married to someone she doesn't love, and her father won't allow her to marry Lysander, who she does love. They agree to run away and get married in secret and live away from all what they have now.
Then there is a theatre company, getting ready for a play they have to represent. Those parts of the play were extremely funny and "Bottom", one of the characters, was just amazingly written (like the whole thing) and well, it was just so funny to read.
Then, the most surreal side, the fairies, which is a nice way to talk about love, but I think I will have to wait until we go through that part in class to fully understand why they are in the play. However, there are some nice, witty scenes that are actually very interesting to read.

The story is not long at all and it is so easy to read that I actually read the play in about an hour, which, given the fact that it is not written in modern day English, is quite something.

Shakespeare is Shakespeare and of course I am no one to talk about his works, but even though this may be quite silly and all, I had real fun  reading it and wouldn't mind at all to see a production of it. The writing is so good that you wouldn't even care if the story wasn't interesting, the words just capture you in such a way that not many stories can do.

April 23rd

Hello everyone, today it is a very special day for literature, (Shakespeare died today many in 1616 and Cervantes did die on April 23rd too) so, for that reason I have something for you. I wrote a novel, in spanish, which is the first part of a planned trilogy and it's free today in amazon, so here's the link, and I hope some of you will give it a chance!

Once upon a time

Once Upon a Time

Finally, there was another chapter last night, so today I have something to review that is recently enough for you to remember it as fresh as possible.
So, let me just say that hopefully whoever decided that Once Upon a Time is so cool that people will be just waiting 4 weeks after an absolute random episode to watch another one, is now fired and will never have that idea again. You know that I am not a big fan of Season 2 and I think that I am not the only one who is disappointed with the direction the show is going, but we are no one but a bunch of audience members, so who cares, right?

So, in last night's episode we see Belle (who went to the Hairdresser in the hospital, to make things more real, of course), we see Anton (Hurley) again and the magic bean plantation and all that. We get some Regina, which is always good, but this time it felt like too careless, there was a moment between Emma and her that could have been amazing, but it just wasn't… too bad.

For some random reason, back in the enchanted forest we saw Robin Hood, who stole a wand from Rumplestinskin (which created a sort of confrontation between him and Belle-- that was the best part of the episode, by the way) And well… It was interesting to see how Gold is trying to get Belle back even after Regina's dark tricks, but I don't think that will save the season either.

A rather disappointing ending made me think, again, "why am I still watching this"…. Whatever, I will end the Season, and hopefully the show will end.

Trailer: Catching Fire

TRAILER: Catching Fire

I didn't want to do this, but I've been watching this 3 to 4 times a day since it came out (last sunday), so I think I have to make a quick review of the trailer of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" which  obviously is the sequel to The Hunger Games.

The trailer starts with the victory tour in Rue's district (If I remember correctly from the books) and it more or less shows what happens there, which happens like it does in the book. We have a parallel situation with President Snow, (part that due to the First person narration is not in the book) in which we can more or less see what the capitol intends to do: get rid of Katniss.
What is really cool about the whole thing is that it doesn't give much away and that -THANK GOD- they didn't show the games. Personally, the games of book 2 are 1000 times better than the ones in the first book, so, good think they didn't spoil anything!

As for what I could tell from the trailer, the direction seems very neat, similar perhaps to that of Gary Ross in the first film, but what clearly stands out was the cinematography, I don't know if they changed the cinematographer, but hell this one looks darker and scarier!
As the trailer says: "every revolution begins with a spark", every box office hit begins with a good teaser, and they got it right!

Harry Potter and the Half blood prince

Harry Potter and the Half blood prince directed by David Yates

Hey there, I have like 5 minutes to write, and since I have 3 more Harry Potter films left, I'll go with one of them. The sixth one!

Harry is back at Hogwarts, Sirius was killed in the last fil/book and Harry is not in his best moment. Suddenly, Dumbledore needs him for a mission that will help destroy the dark lord. They have to find the Horcruxes, which basically are objects that have pieces of Voldemort's soul, which makes him immortal.
This is the beginning of the end, because from now on the main goal will be find and destroy those horcruxes. There are some nice moments in the film, but overall I thought it was the worst adaptation of them all, which really bothers me because it came from my favourite book from the entire series.

It seems to me, that they went for the "romance" between the characters rather than what was really important. I really didn't like this film, the only thing worth watching was its last part, even though it was too different from the book and I am still mad at them for not including the last chapters in the book (I'm not telling what happens, in case someone doesn't know it).

Basically, this is to me a bad adaptation, that is nothing but disappointing, which is not at all like the source material it is based on.

MadHatterSays: Obviously, you will have to watch this if you watch the entire series, but this is the worst one, by far.
